Watched Yet Unseen documents the realities of Palestinian life in Al-Khalil/Hebron and Masafer Yatta/South Hebron Hills. Under systematic violence, surveillance, separation and destruction, the photo book shows what everyday life looks like under occupation but also how people live, laugh and persevere despite everything.
In Al-Khalil and Masafer Yatta, Palestinian communities are subjected to systematic oppression on a daily basis: checkpoints, military presence, house demolitions, settler violence, surveillance and the constant threat of losing their homes. In Masafer Yatta, several villages are threatened with complete eviction under the pretext of a military training area. In Hebron, public space is literally divided up by violence and control.
This is precisely where the photo book comes in: It documents the realities of life under Israeli occupation. It gives Palestinians a voice and visibility as people who feel and live. Between portraits and landscapes, a visual testimony of fear, surveillance and steadfastness in Al-Khalil and Masafer Yatta emerges. The images show everyday life, intimacy and the exhaustive repetition of control, destruction and threat.Created with the support of CPT Palestine, the photo book sees itself as a counter-narrative to dehumanization, as an invitation to look, listen and understand. These are testimonies of the reality of people who remain despite everything.
